Rock Climbing at Power Up Climbing

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

We decided to celebrate our Valentine’s day rock climbing. For sure the restaurants and malls will be full of dating couples. We did not want to waste time and energy waiting in long line and crowded spaces. An afternoon of doing something new and challenging with my boyfriend seems so much more romantic.

We went to Power Up Climbing. It is located inside Centro Atletico in Cubao. The place has a badminton area and a wall climbing area.

We registered at the front desk when we arrived. We then claimed our rental shoes and harness. Afterwards, we were given a belay training. It was followed by actual climbing afterwards. 

We learned the basic climbing signals:
'Climbing' - to be said by climber before starting a climb.
'Climb on' - to be said by belayer before climber can start.
'Tension' - to be said by climber if rope feels too loose.
'Slack' - to be said by climber if rope feels too tight.
'Down' - to be said by climber when he/she have reached the top.
'Let go' - to be said by belayer to signal climber to let go and he/she will be assisted down.

We had so much fun! We were able to climb to the top 5 times each (on the beginner walls, with breaks in between). We arrived at 5:00 P.M. and they close at 8:00 P.M. If we had more time, we would have climbed more. I could see my boyfriend wanted to stay for more. The fee covers as many climb as you want.

Also, having your boyfriend belay you while it's the first time you're both doing this is such a Trust exercise! Hahaha! You just have to trust that he will ensure your safety!

The good:

• It was fun!
• The place is spacious.
• All the staff are friendly, attentive, and helpful (especially to beginners).
• There are different levels of walls to climb.
• There are also places where you can do exercises to strengthen your climbing abilities.
• The experienced climbers tackling the advance walls were amusing to watch.
• The parking space is big.
• The restrooms are clean.

The bad:

• Nothing! The place is great. (But I, on the other hand, need to work more on my grip strength!)
